Heatmiser live at Satyricon, Portland, OR 3-5-94. Previously uncirculated

This is most of Heatmiser's set at the famed Satyricon in Portland, OR on March 5th, 1994. The recording stopped during the second to last song. Wish I could remember why! It was the very early days with my deck so I was still learning it and techniques. It was recorded on a Sony WM-D3 with the stock mic, which means it's a thin sounding recording as the D3 stock mic had crap low-end response. I cleaned up up a little in Peak Pro 7.

The B&W pics of the interior/exterior of Satyricon were grabbed from the facebook group I Hung Out at Satyricon Back in the Day. Apologies to the photographer(s) that I do not have proper credit to attribute their fine works to, nor profusely thank them again for capturing the hallowed hall that was the Satyricon…and George, and Taki, and Daniel behind the bar, and the trough in the men's room. I can almost smell it now...

The gents holding the Out Now! advert for the Hazel 7" are non other than the mighty Denny Swofford and Christopher Cooper of Cavity Search Records. That's an early shot of the lads as the Hazel 7" was Hazel's vinyl debut and the first release on Cavity Search and Heatmiser’s Stray 7” was their second release. They also released the Sleeping Pill 7” as well as a debut album Roman Candle by some dude named Elliott Smith. To say Messrs Swofford & Cooper knew what was up is an understatement.

I’m hoping this will be the first in a series of digitizing my live recording archives. Many have been shared over the years (search here for Foo Fighters 3/3/95 and the earliest POTUSA recordings) but many more still to come. Don’t download and sell it. Just share and enjoy. For the people who love live music and know how vital it is to myriad people across the globe.

RIP Elliott Smith, RIP Christopher Cooper, RIP Satyricon and RIP X-Ray Cafe. The loss of all them is still surreal and reverberating, as are their contributions to the Portland scene and the world at large.
