In this bonus episode, Lauren and Sara speak with Kathryn Brillinger, who joined Conestoga in 2003 as a full-time professor and gradually transitioned into faculty development before retiring in 2024 as the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning. Kathryn brings a unique perspective as she discusses how she shares herself as a leader of the Teaching and Learning team and compares this to her sharing as faculty, being the leader in a classroom. The three dive into a variety of topics, touching on the use of strategic disclosure to build trust with students in the classroom, the notion of teaching as performance, how the intersection of faculty identities and the course subject matter can create teacher “exhaustion”, and the importance of sharing being reciprocal in the classroom.
