Sweat and blood mingled in the air I breathed,
My tormentor from the door called my name.
Chains like lead weights were released,
But the day had come, this was no game.
A cross dropped heavy on my back,
A crowd gathered, enjoying jeers they threw,
Every step an age, no going back,
Every eye said "This is on you.".

Wood and wind and blame.

Someone met my eyes—no sound,
Just an empty stare.

But innocence shone from the Lord's every pore.
This was God and my every sin He could have listed,
But despite my fear, despite the gore,
When I said, “Remember me when You reign,”
His face shone all the more,
He called me brother, called my name,
And He opened up another door.

As from this life we fell
