Robert Ladd revealed that he once narrowly escaped death during a gang initiation by Orlando Anderson and his team. He recounts how Orlando Anderson and others ambushed him outside a McDonald's in Long Beach. This action was part of their initiation into the Southside Crips. While Anderson and another man managed to escape any serious repercussions, possibly due to the overloaded court system at the height of the rock cocaine epidemic, the third accomplice, who dealt the shots, was apprehended. According to Robert Ladd, this close shave with death is the reason behind his long-standing history with Orlando Anderson.
