This short video explains how to design and make wood worm gear sets for hand-cranked models or toys. An angled wood block is used to make the mating spur gear that has angled teeth to match the angle of the worm gear. The worm gear set in this video is designed to give a gear speed reduction ratio of 22 to 1. The maximum speed a human can crank my models is about 202 RPM. The worm gear set reduces the speed down to about 9 RPM, which is the most the model will operate at without jamming up.
