“What wretched question have you prepared?” My Q&A with Alexander Lukashenko during his four-and-a-half hour press conference, from a polling station, shown live on Belarusian TV on election day. He claimed his opponents had “chosen” prison or exile (in reality the authorities had chosen to target them.) He suggested that “Prison is for people who opened their mouths too wide.” He even claimed that I am the reason he asked Vladimir Putin for Oreshnik missiles. Surreal.
