EVERYTHING YOU NEED:
Wifi PCVR software such as Virtual Desktop, Air Link, or Steam Link. I recommend Virtual Desktop. Make sure you're logged into the right account when you buy this.
~$25 USD

You need one app for your Quest, which is paid, and one free app for your desktop which you get on the VRDesktop website.
https://www.vrdesktop.net/
2 to 4 Valve Index lighthouses ("base stations")
~$300 USD for 2 (I bought mine used for ~$200 USD)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/10...
3 Vive 3.0 trackers
~$400 USD for 3 (I bought mine used for ~$300 USD)

Straps - I recommend EOZ straps (get "Waist Strap" and "Pair of Limb Straps")
~$60 USD for both (I got mine used for free as part of the deal for my trackers and lighthouses)

Drill and stud finder if you don't already have those
Software that disables inside out trackers that we don't need: DanTechs' Virtual Desktop Body Tracking Configurator
https://github.com/DenTechs/Virtual_D...
Software that calibrates the trackers: hyblocker's fork of OpenVR Space Calibrator
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/33...
GitHub: https://github.com/hyblocker/OpenVR-S...
Pushrax's fork, is unmaintained and does not have continuous calibration.
Software for turning the lighthouses off and on with SteamVR: kurotu's OVR Lighthouse Manager

Lighthouses...
DO NOT need to be the same height
DO NOT need to be able to see each other
Should be within 5m of each other (though some users say 7m is fine)
Should be in opposite corners
Should be above head height, at least 2m up
Should be angled to point at the centre of the play area
To have the lighthouses turn off when you're doing playing, you need a separate app: kurotu's OVR Lighthouse Manager.
Info on trackers:
🟠Orange means charging
⚪Solid white means fully charged
🔵Flashing blue means pairing
🟢Green means paired
To calibrate the trackers, you need a separate app: Space Calibrator.

ADDENDUM TO THIS TUTORIAL:
After posting this video some people pointed out some things which could have been improved.
Calibration figure-of-eight: I show and explain the procedure for calibrating correctly but not CLEARLY. To calibrate, you hold the reference device (left controller in my case) and the tracker in the same hand, and make a figure 8 motion. In the video, I first show how I hold both the controller and the tracker in one hand, since it's a bit tricky to have them not slip. Two users got confused by this and thought that the clip of me showing how I hold both devices in one hand was instead me showing how they were supposed to calibrate. In the next clip, you can see my avatar's arm moving in a figure 8 while I calibrate, which shows you how to calibrate. However, this is partially covered by the translucent calibration UI. I should have shown the figure 8 motion clearly without any UI in front of it.
Calibrating while walking: it's been recommended to walk around your playspace while making the figure 8. This is said to result in a more accurate calibration.
What does the top-right of the UI actually show?: I actually still don't know the answer to this. In the video I said it was the names/serial numbers of the dongles, since experimentally I have found that which tracker an item in this list is referring to is inconsistent. For example, let's imagine we have three trackers and their item names in this list are apple, banana, and orange. In one play session, they may correspond something like this way: apple = left foot, banana = right foot, and orange = waist. The next time I go to play VR I may find that this has changed and now the names correspond this way: apple = waist, banana = left foot, and orange = right foot. From this I've reasoned that it may be that the items in this list are referring to the dongles, not the trackers, and that sometimes the dongles may pair with different trackers. However, the could be a few other possibilities. One simple explanation is that I could be simply switching which leg a tracker is going onto. Another explanation is that the list here doesn't refer to the dongles but rather to a name that is procedurally generated, which one user has called the "lighthouse LHR number".
Thanks for your patience and kindness with me being new to FBT and just trying to show what setup I settled on!
