We're from New Zealand, but only within the past year did Blue Spring Putaruru even come on our radar. Rotorua is one of the most common tourist spots, as locals we haven't spent too much time there in recent years, the Blue Springs are a day trip walk from Rotorua so seem to have gained popularity.

According to local tourism sites in New Zealand.... The Blue Spring at Te Waihou Walkway is internationally acclaimed with water so pure it supplies around 60% of New Zealand’s bottled water.

The walk to the springs follows a track alongside the Waihou River, through wetlands, across rolling pastoral land and features views of small waterfalls, native bush and the famous Blue Spring with glimpses of trout along the way.

The Blue Spring walk takes about one and a half hours each way, starting near Putaruru. There is also a shorter walk, 15 minutes each way, to the Blue Spring, accessed from nearby Leslie Road.

We didn't have time to do the full Te Waihou Walkway, about 4.7km either direction, so just did the shorter trip this time. But 100% already planning the chance to go back and walk the full thing - it was beautiful!
