Imagine that the LNER had upgraded the East Anglian mainline from Liverpool Street to Lowestoft and Yarmouth. Their plan was to encourage more holiday traffic to seaside towns like Aldeburgh and Southwold, so that they could compete with the more popular South Coast and West Country resorts like Bournemouth and Torquay.
This video portrays a model of Gippeswyk, a busy junction station on this line in the 1950s, with branches off to Aldeburgh and Southwold. The upgraded line is able to cope with the biggest and most powerful locos that run on the BR Eastern Region, such as A3 and A4 Pacifics. The fictional location allows for a wide variety of traffic - fast expresses, slower local trains, fish, coal, oil and mixed freights. The seaside resorts also allow for many extra passenger trains coming from all over East Anglia and further afield.
