In this subseries of The Math Lover's Book on biographies of famous mathematicians throughout history, I present a brief bio of Jean Robert Argand (1768 - 1832), a French mathematician, best known for his 2D representation of complex numbers, called the Argand diagram in his honor, but also known for his 1814 proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, though he was not the first to prove this theorem.
