Once, an elephant’s carcass floated down a river. A crow spotted it, rejoiced, and swiftly perched atop the lifeless body. It feasted on the flesh, drank from the river, and hopped about in delight, belching in utter contentment.
The crow mused, “Ah! This is the perfect vessel—endless food and water! Why wander elsewhere?” For days, it rode the drifting carcass, tearing into the flesh when hungry and sipping the river’s water when thirsty. The boundless current, the lush vistas along the banks, and the serene flow left the crow enchanted.
Eventually, the river merged into the ocean, fulfilling its ultimate destiny. But for the aimless crow, disaster struck. Four days of indulgence had lured it into a desolate expanse—no food, no fresh water, no refuge. Only endless, churning saltwater stretched to the horizon.
Exhausted and starving, the crow flapped its tattered wings, darting frantically in all directions. Its shallow, erratic flights betrayed its desperation, but no shore greeted it. Finally, overwhelmed, it plunged into the towering waves. A lurking crocodile swallowed it whole.
Moral: Those consumed by physical comforts, mistaking them for life’s ultimate purpose, meet a fate akin to the crow’s—lost in the boundless ocean of existence.
Epilogue:
For whom is triumph, for whom defeat?
This endless strife, whose life to beat?
All who come must one day depart,
Why cling to arrogance of the heart?
