It was announced by GIO Rail that the LAST ever Orangeville Brampton Railway train would run on December 17th, 2021. The train would make the 35 mile run from Orangeville south to CP Streetsville yard in Mississauga, marking the final train to run on the CP Owen Sound subdivision, which was constructed in 1879.
After a failed attempt to film the operation a week earlier, I knew I had to chase this historic train, and ended up catching it 7 times on its way south, albeit waking up at 6 am.
I also made sure to document the Dawson Road crossing in Orangeville, which was home to one of the last US&S Teardrop crossing bells in Ontario.
The OBRY fell victim to the greed of the Orangeville mayor, Sandy Brown, being sold for quick cash and will likely become another rail trail. This line could have served as a vital transportation link for the fast-growing Peel Region, but the regional politicians have proven how short-sighted they are yet again. There were many railfans present to document this run, and I made sure to follow all COVID rules and restrictions to the best of my abilities. Enjoy, and thanks for 200 subscribers!!
