If we consider for two habitats,
α richness is the number of species found in each habitat,
β richness is the number of species unique to each habitat, so, it is (no. of spp. in H1 - no. of spp. common in both habitats) + (no. of spp. in H2 - no. of common species in both habitats), and
γ richness is the cumulative total for the two habitats.
