Patients from underserved and historically marginalized communities often face distinct barriers throughout the cancer care continuum — from symptom recognition to diagnosis, treatment navigation, and survivorship support. These challenges are shaped by inequities in access, trust, language, and social support, contributing to delays and poorer outcomes.
This session explores the lived experiences of individuals from marginalized populations and highlights opportunities to build more equitable, inclusive, and culturally safe oncology systems. By elevating patient perspectives, the discussion aims to inform more responsive care delivery and spark meaningful system-level change.
Key areas of focus include:
• The importance of culturally responsive, inclusive care models and the impact of stigma on care avoidance or delay
• Structural and informational barriers limiting timely diagnosis, support services, and treatment navigation
• The need to diversify cancer data collection to better reflect underrepresented and marginalized populations
This session was recorded during CCRAN’s virtual Early Age Onset Cancer Symposium (Nov 20–21, 2025). To learn more about CCRAN and our work to support, educate, and advocate for patients and caregivers across Canada, visit ccran.org.
