An Overview
Zoos have evolved greatly throughout history, starting as menageries with cages and ending with the creation of a naturalistic setting for the animals with their welfare in mind. Around the world, a lot of work is being done to foster empathy for animals by creating immersive habitats that benefit both the animals and Visitors. This approach not only shows the ecological relationships observed in nature, but it is also educational. It makes people aware of the various types of animals there are in the different environments on the planet.

The Rasikbeel Mini Zoo is situated at the heart of the Protected Forest Blocks of Rasikbeel and Chengtimari Mouza of Nagurhat beat of Coochbehar- 1 Range under Coochbehar Division. Present area of the Rasikbeel Mini Zoo is 20.17 Ha (19.84 Acre) will have plan to develop more (66.946 Aere).

The development of the Rasikbeel Mini Zoo and its precinct is a key leature of Coochbehar. The Rasikbeel Mini Zoo was established in the year of 1997 as Bochamari Deer Park. On 08.06.2003, Gharial enclosure was started functioning in the same park. Tortoise enclosure was added in the year of 2004. On 26.12.2005 the Leopard enclosure and Aviary were started in this park.

Rasikbeel Mini Zoo was recognised by the Central Zoo Authority. Govt. of India, vide letter no. F. No 22-71/2004-CZA (457) (M). dated: 05.08.2005.
