East Spanish Peak (12,680’) is high on the Colorado prominence list at No. 48 with 2,397’ of prominence. There are no mountains east of it higher or more than 12, 11, and 10-thousand feet in elevation.
The Spanish Peaks are known as Huajatolla or Wahatoya by the Comanche. They were a prominent navigational feature on the Santa Fe Trail.
