Visiting Fort Louis in Marigot, St. Martin

Sometimes there's a reason to not to go the beach in St. Martin. Just as long as it doesn't take too long right? Well if you aren't going to have sand between your toes you might as well give your eyes something to look at. And no, I'm not talking about Platinum Room...

Fort Louis is an 18th-century landmark in Marigot, St. Martin originally built for protection but is now a place where tourists go to see a nice view. And let me tell you, it's worth it.

This experience is a terrific add-on to other adventures. So no need to design your day around it. However, it's worth a stop if you find yourself in the area or driving through. And what makes this even easier, is the free parking at the bottom of the steps to go to it.

The climb to the top requires taking the stairs. They do not require much effort and there is a handrail for those who need it. For me, it was about a 2-minute climb and I am not what one would call "In-Shape"

Once you get to the top, you will walk through a wall of stone. There are plaques throughout the area with both French and English explanations of the history of Fort Louis. If you're like me, you will skim over them because behind each plaque is a very beautiful distracting view.

From Fort Louis, on a clear day, you can see from Simpson Bay, through Cupecoy and Terres Basses, and all of Marigot from above. On a really clear day, you can see the surrounding islands of Saba and Anguilla.

Stay here for as long or as little as you want. Let the view captivate you, and take as many pictures as your social media can handle. I highly recommend climbing up to the flagpole for the highest view and the most epic of photo spots.

Overall, this spot is the right amount of fantastic. You will enjoy it. If the stairs or the lack of parking were an issue, I would say skip it, but lucky enough, it's a super easy adventure to take 30 minutes of your day to enjoy.

When you're done, head down into Marigot for lunch inside the Marigot Harbor or at the new waterfront restaurants with tasty local cuisine.
