Rex: "Talk to me, Fives. Please. What’s going on?"
Fives: "You need to hear this before they come. I don’t have time. None of us do."
Fives: "There’s a plot, bigger than anything you’ve seen. It’s not just about Tup, or me. It’s about all of us. Every clone."
Anakin: "What kind of plot?"
Fives: "A conspiracy… to destroy the Jedi. The whole Republic. We've been set up since the beginning."
Anakin: "By who?"
Fives: "There’s something inside us. In all the clones. They call it an ‘inhibitor chip.’ It’s not a mutation or defect, it’s deliberate. They say it's a safety protocol, but it’s not. It's a kill switch."
Rex: "A chip? Since birth?"
Fives: "Yeah. Implanted before we ever opened our eyes. It’s what made Tup snap. What made me a target. They said I was ‘sick’, but I wasn’t. I found my own chip. Had it removed."
Anakin: "Who put it there?"
Fives: "Kaminoans. But it doesn’t stop there. They’re working under orders. I traced it. The request for the chips… it came from the highest level of the Republic. From the Chancellor himself."
Anakin: "Chancellor? That’s a serious accusation, Fives."
Fives: "I know how it sounds. I know! But he’s involved. He’s behind it. When I confronted him, they tried to detain me. Wipe my mind. Cover it all up. Why do that if I was wrong?"
Rex: "You went after the Chancellor...?"
Fives: "I just wanted answers. But now I’m being hunted like a traitor. Like I’m the problem."
Anakin: "Why would the Chancellor want to destroy the Jedi?"
Fives: "I don’t know. But it’s coming. I’ve seen enough. When the order comes… we won’t even know we’re doing it. We’ll just execute. Without question."
Rex: "We’d never turn on the Jedi. Not by choice."
Fives: "Exactly. That’s what makes it perfect. It won’t be our choice."
Fives (weakly): "Rex... I only wanted to do my duty."
Rex: "You did, Fives. You did more than anyone."
Fives: "Find the truth... please..."
Stormclouds gather outside the Jedi Temple, their silent churn casting an unnatural twilight across Coruscant’s skyline. The tall windows of the High Council chamber dim beneath the weight of the storm. Inside, the atmosphere feels heavier than mere air pressure. Tension coils, unspoken but palpable, like a tightening snare.
Anakin Skywalker stands at the center of the chamber, hands clenched behind his back, posture rigid. Beside him stands Captain Rex, armored as always, helmet tucked firmly beneath his arm. Neither man shows fear, but both carry grief in their eyes, grief, and something else. Determination.
The Jedi Council sits in a silent semicircle, each Master watching the pair with solemn skepticism. Finally, Mace Windu leaned forward, breaking the silence.
Mace Windu: "You claim Fives believed the Chancellor implanted control devices into every clone trooper?"
Anakin: "He didn’t just believe it. He knew. He had his own chip removed. He wasn’t paranoid or delusional; he was being silenced for knowing the truth."
Ki-Adi-Mundi: "A clone accusing the Supreme Chancellor of treason? That’s a grave charge... even coming from a Jedi."
Yoda: "Troubled, Fives was. But mad, I sensed not. Clear, his thoughts were, focused, even as fear gripped him."
Obi-Wan: "You said he mentioned a kill switch? Something pre-programmed from birth?"
Rex: "Yes, Masters. He believed it was embedded in us, meant to override our free will. It wasn’t theoretical. He said it was real, physical. And meant to trigger on command. The order he described... it would make us turn on the Jedi."
Mace Windu: "This demands verification. Quietly. If there’s truth here, we cannot afford to alert the Senate, or the Chancellor."
Yoda: "Agree, I do. Secretly examine this, we must. Trust, we cannot, not until more is known."
No further debate follows. The Council has heard enough. The investigation begins, out of sight, out of earshot of the Republic they serve. That same night, in a sealed lower wing of the Jedi Temple, Jedi healers work in total secrecy. The long, sterile corridors remain dim, the silence broken only by the whirr of droids and the soft hum of scanning equipment.
A select number of clones are brought in, off-duty soldiers who have served with honor, selected carefully by Rex and trusted not to question the vague explanation for their "neurological exams." None is told the real reason they are here.
