The new Sydney Fish Market in Pyrmont has opened to the public, marking the completion of the $800 million landmark building that is the largest fish market in the Southern Hemisphere. The market attracted eager crowds from 7am on opening day, with a charity auction at 5am seeing a 40-kilogram yellowfin tuna sell for more than $15,000. The project faced numerous delays, cost blowouts and legal challenges before completion, with the old market site set to be demolished for apartments and a new precinct later this year.
