As part of CAN’s ongoing commitment to supporting emerging and established artists from under-represented backgrounds in Greater Manchester, we ran the CAN Do Creatives employability programme to support unemployed artists during 2021 and 2022.
Some of the artists were new to the UK, some were new to the arts industry, and others were exploring new directions to their creative careers. The programme was led by trainers, Sarah Atter and Kooj Chuhan with project management by Charlotte Butler. A total of 17 artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines accessed the course with 13 artists completing the course. The following films give you a snapshot of participating artist's practice, background and aspirations.
The artists are:
Reza Amelipour
Yalda Farmehr
Haleh Jalali
Kofo Kego
Lisa Latham
Molly Major
Peyman Mandegar
Aylin Nemati Salahi
Leo Macdonald Oulds
Mandy Pearks
Paul Perrelli
Gloria Saya
Fariba Taghypoor
We are grateful for funding from the European Social Fund which funded the places of most of the artists featured in this film, and to our core funders, Arts Council England and Manchester City Council for additional support.
Filmed for the CAN Do Creatives project by Community Arts North West. Video production by Kooj Chuhan / Crossing Footprints.
