The ionosphere makes up less than 1% of the mass of Earth’s atmosphere above 100km. It’s the part of our atmosphere that affects the passage of radio waves. But how? Ionised Oxygen atoms are the key to radio propagation and good DX. EUV and activity from our sun affect the MUF and LUF.
The inspiration for this video came from "Ionospheric Radio" by Kenneth Davies, an up-to-date survey of the theory and practice of radio wave propagation involving transmission through and reflection from the ionosphere. Kenneth Davies is a senior research scientist at the Space Environment Laboratory in Colorado.
