Hybrid Theory is the debut studio album by Linking Park released in 2000. It went on to sell 30 million copies worldwide. It spent a total of 229 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. It contains the top 5 hit "In the End" as well as "One Step Closer" and "Crawling." The album earned the band a Grammy award. The album's lyrical themes deal with problems lead vocalist Chester Bennington experienced during his adolescence, including sexual abuse, drug abuse and the constant fighting and divorce of his parents. Hybrid Theory takes its title from the previous name of the band as well as the concept of music theory and combining different styles. Musical genres on the album include nu metal, rap metal, alternative metal, rap rock, and alternative rock. It is the best-selling debut album since Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction (1987) and the best-selling rock album of the 21st century. After the death of Bennington on July 20, 2017, the album reached number 1 on the iTunes and Amazon music charts.
