This was a time when people believed the boundary between the living and the dead was thinnest, allowing spirits to cross into the human world. When Christianity spread, the church created All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Saints' Day on November 1st), which eventually became Halloween. Over the centuries, it mixed with local customs, like the tradition of mumming (people dressing up and going door-to-door for food or drink) and the idea of carving jack-o’-lanterns (originally made from turnips) to ward off evil spirits.

In modern times, Halloween has become a fun and lighthearted celebration. It’s associated with costumes, trick-or-treating, haunted houses, and the celebration of spooky themes like ghosts, witches, and monsters. It’s also a time to enjoy the eerie and playful side of things, often with an emphasis on community, creativity, and escapism.
