Dublin’s bustling fruit and vegetable market was struggling to keep pace with the city’s growth, still operating much as it had since opening in 1892. Farmers arrived before dawn with produce from North County Dublin, vying for space in narrow, crowded streets never designed for modern traffic. Competition from imported goods, changing consumer habits, and supermarket supply chains were reshaping the trade, while concerns grew over outdated marketing practices. Broadcast on 21 May 1968. #archive #dublinmarket
