Choy Li Fut Kung Fu Black Sash Test - Jason Denzel - Eastern Ways Martial Arts

This is a video showcasing some of the highlights of my kung fu black sash test. I study a form of kung fu called Choy Lit Fut which has its primary roots in southern China. This specific system was founded by Chan Heun in 1836 although the techniques it employs are far older, dating back to ancient times.

I learned my kung fu at Eastern Ways Martial Arts near Sacramento, CA. Eastern Ways is part of the Plum Blossom Federation, run by Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong. My teacher is Sifu Matt Stroh, who learned from Tai Sifu Alan Hubbard. I'm proud to be their student.

Although I've been active and athletic all my life, I was 44 at the time of this test. I began my martial arts journey 11 years ago. And while I've come far, it's hard for me to see anything except minor mistakes in my technique. The system of Choy Li Fut is one of the most complex systems in the world so it's not uncommon for adult students to take 9, 10, or more years to reach this level.

I consider this to be just another milestone in my journey of learning this art and improving myself as a human.
