In the 1993 World Championships 200m final, Merlene Ottey of Jamaica won with a time of 21.98 seconds, defeating Olympic champion Gwen Torrence of the United States, who finished in 22.00 seconds. Irina Privalova from Russia took the bronze with a time of 22.13.
