Guasa translates roughly as a joke or banter. As I play this piece, I think of my son, Eric, as a young carefree boy, walking home from school. He was silly and sometimes mischievous-- known to trade his lunch for apples that he would stuff in his pockets and get in trouble for reading too many books during school. I had purchased this sheet music from a music store sidewalk sale in about 1980 and finally sat down to try it out. It sounds to me a bit like Venezuelan Ragtime. The oil pastel drawing is of Eric walking our dog when he was about five years old. The artist is a dear friend, Jan McDonald from Tucson, Arizona. Guitar luthier Martin Blackwell.
