My Mercedes C250 lost heat (of course during the coldest week in Florida). I managed to fix it by removing a part from the heater control valve that stops coolant from entering the engine to help it warm up quicker. When it gets stuck closed the coolant will no longer go through the top of the engine and won’t go through to the heater core, causing no heat. By removing the plug inside of the valve I was able to keep the valve permanently open, which caused the engine to take 1-2 more minutes to heat up but also gave me heat back without having to worry about doing this again if the valve fails again. Definitely try this fix before buying a new one, because this is free and does no harm to the car.
I haven’t tried this without completely removing the valve. If you remove the 4 screws you should be able to remove the plug inside the valve. I may try this if I ever reinstall the plug to see if I can get it to work again.
Tips:
When pulling off the valve a lot of coolant will spill out. Place a bucket or something below the car to catch it. Try not to get any on the belt, but it may happen.
Taking apart the valve is easy, make sure it goes back together tight and the o ring seats or you may have coolant leaks
When replacing the valve don’t forget to put the clips back on the hose or it will leak
