Looking at guitar amps with Chickenbone John

This isn't meant to be a comprehensive look at amplifiers, its just what I've got at the moment, and how I use them. Hopefully it might help newcomers to get their heads round the basic differences between amps. You don't need to spend a fortune, and if you buy wisely you can get a great deal on 2nd hand gear - my most expensive amp, the Deluxe Reverb was almost half new price, and only a few months old. It is really easy to get stuck in a rabbit hole of chasing the ultimate tone. My preferences are for a really solid, rich clean sound, which I use most of the time, for both cigarbox guitar and regular 6 string electric, plus a moderately overdriven gritty tone for some numbers. I can achieve that with the Fender Super Champ without needing pedals, or with the Deluxe Reverb plus an overdrive pedal. Is it perfect? Perhaps no, but it's as close as I need to get. As I say, on a live performance if you are worried that the audience are listening to the tone of your amp rather than your playing, something's wrong.
