(24 Aug 2017) Japan's Ground Self Defence Force (JGSDF) began its annual live-fire exercises at the foot of Mount Fuji on Thursday.
The three-day drill is held at the base of Mt. Fuji and involves approximately 80 tanks and armoured vehicles, 60 artillery units, 20 aircrafts and 700 military vehicles.
Appearing along with this year's brigade is the JGSDF's new amphibious assault vehicle and upgraded manoeuvre combat vehicle.
These are set to be deployed this year or later.
The drills have been made open to the public since 1966 to invite civilians to better understand the workings of the JGSDF.
The US and South Korean military have also been running their annual military exercises amid North Korea's missile threats.
