The Sierra Leone National Railway Museum is in Cline Town, the eastern part of Freetown. After many months of hard work ,cleaning, repairing and restoring, the National Railway Museum was officially opened to the public on the 12th March 2005 in presence of the late president Ahmed Tejan Kabbah and Mr. Andrew Scott the director for the trains. The railway system operated until 1974/75. And the last official train runs and shutdown on 17th November 1975 due to a combination of increased car traffic and country policy. One of the unusual items in the museum’s collection is a couch specially made for Queen Elizabeth II to use for her visit in 1961 but she never end up using it.
