⁴ᴷ Ehime: Uwajima Station (愛媛県: 宇和島駅) - Japan Walking Tour (January, 2025)

I’ve resumed my plan to visit various cities in Shikoku—something I had to postpone last December. I took a ferry directly from Tokyo to Tokushima and then traveled through Kōchi Prefecture to reach Ehime Prefecture.

I’ve arrived in Uwajima, which is known to be one of the farthest cities from the Tokyo metropolitan area in terms of travel time. It’s a bit of a walk from Uwajima Station to the main shopping district. The shopping arcade there is quite impressive, but whether it’s because it was Sunday or if it’s normally like this, there weren’t many people out. Near the end of the shopping arcade, you can see Uwajima Castle—one of Japan’s existing original castle towers—illuminated against the night sky, which left quite an impression. With this, I’ve now seen all 12 of Japan’s original surviving castle towers.
