In 2019, we traveled to St. Martin / St. Maarten and unknowingly arrived just in time to experience the calm before the storm. What began as a relaxing Caribbean getaway quickly turned into an unforgettable adventure as Tropical Storm Dorian strengthened into Hurricane Dorian and moved toward the island.

During our St. Maarten vacation, we closely followed the storm’s path from Barbados to St. Martin, then on toward Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, and Florida. We stayed up late watching Weather Channel live updates as Dorian approached the world-famous Maho Beach near the Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). All we could do was prepare and weather the storm.
