Here we have "Got A Match" off of the Chick Corea Elektric Band's debut album of the same name. It was this album that really jump started the career of the drummer, Dave Weckl.
This fusion groove utilizes elements of funk and afro-cuban rhythms. The bass drum plays part of a tumbao rhythm but displaced to a different part of the bar while the hands play very funk oriented rhythms, with the snare ghosting. It is imperative that these ghost notes be kept small. The hi-hats keep playing on the off beats and the ride cymbal mirrors the bass drum.
Start off slow with this difficult groove and slowly build up the speed. Have fun!!
