The return of hope and smile

Meet Suhaila, a survivor of the earthquakes that hit Herat, Afghanistan, three months ago. Her home was destroyed along with nearly 50,000 others, leaving thousands of families without proper shelter. They've been living in makeshift tents made from sticks, sheets, and blankets.

UNDP and the Norwegian Church Aid partnered with local communities to build sturdy and sustainable transitional shelters using local and salvaged materials. In less than three months, we've completed 235 of these shelters, providing a safe refuge for families like Suhaila's, who are facing the harsh winter conditions in Herat.
