Hey, Jason Sharon here with Home Loans Inc. I'm a local mortgage broker here to talk to you about what happens if a VA appraisal comes in low. So let's start off with talking about what could cause it to come in low. One could be that the appraiser chose comps, comparable properties, that should not have been chosen.

Examples that I've seen recently are where the appraiser picked comps that were in the neighborhood, but were very old, when the next neighborhood over had very recent cops and the neighborhoods have to be very summary. You couldn't just pick it from another neighborhood just to pick it. The neighborhoods have to really make sense to go outside of the neighborhood.

Could also have a material defect with the appraiser. Let's say the appraiser Mr. Room, I've had that happen. He miscalculated the size significantly, or maybe he had some math errors in there and made adjustments one way when they should have done the other. So there's a number of reasons that an appraisal could come in low.
