How to Draw and Sketch a Cat

In this video, we will draw a realistic cat sitting with pencils and a kneaded eraser. Using a reference photo of real cat will help you to see how to place the cat's body and features, and how the light and shadows are added.

First, use guides by lightly and loosely sketching the cat's body and head. Use basic shapes (lines and circles) at first and build up your drawing. Making loose sketch lines is the key to starting a good drawing, then add more lines or shadows, erase those messy lines, and redraw them more like your reference.

Lastly, add some light shadows, then texture, and darker shadows. Finish your sketch by signing it with your fancy signature - just practice how to sign your art and you will find the best artist signature for all your artwork.
