Hi, donkey lovers; I hope this video helps you keep your senior donkeys healthy and living their best senior years. Keeping senior donkeys healthy is a bit more work as they need special foods; a warm, clean blanket during the freezing weather cannot regulate their body temperature. Please understand that all equine (donkeys, mules, and horses) must have a vet check their teeth and gums. As donkeys age, their teeth can break off, become round, and lose, making it difficult to chew and can cause choking and colic. We use Standlee Orchard and Timothy hay pellets with hot water to make an oatmeal mash.
