Yakuza are often presented as rich and powerful gangsters, however, these days, it is difficult for Japanese mafia to get new mobile phones in a legal way due to restrictions of the Japan's laws. But difficulties didn't started just recently, as they were always there, especially when it comes to communication. Back in the days, yakuza had to use phone booths in order to contact their headquarters, which means, they had to carry coins in order to be able to call. From the first look, 10¥ doesn't sound much, but it actually saved many yakuza lives or, at the very least, fingers (from getting chopped during the yubitsume ritual).
