Through the CITES master’s degree program, WA-BiCC intended to create a cadre of experts that would become the backbone of CITES implementation in West Africa and significantly influence wildlife policy development and enforcement. In five years, WA-BiCC has made considerable progress toward this goal, and current efforts to institutionalize these efforts under ECOWAS will build on the strength of existing relationships and jointly achieved successes. The knowledge, skills, and relationships strategically built through the WA-BiCC CITES master’s degree program have become a platform for building regional collaboration in combatting wildlife crime.
