48 hours in Rome, and nothing went the way we planned, which somehow made it perfect.

The trip started in chaos. An earthquake near Naples and wildfires across the countryside had shut down trains, leaving the airport in complete disarray. Instead of wasting hours in queues, we walked along highways, jumped on local buses, and ended up in tiny towns outside Rome that no guidebook even mentions. Sitting with locals, sipping a bitter Aperol spritz, it already felt like the real Italy, even before we reached the city.

When we finally made it into Rome, it was everything you dream it will be. Thanks to Klook, we skipped the endless queues at the big attractions, straight into the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, straight into the Colosseum. No sweating for hours in line.

But the highlight? A boozy cooking class called Rome With Chef, booked through Klook. Local chef Sunny Milano taught us how to make proper Roman carbonara and tiramisu, hands-on, glass of wine in hand, laughing with a small group of people who felt like old friends by the end. The food was incredible, and it felt like we’d been welcomed into someone’s home rather than a class.

Rome can feel overwhelming in summer, but if you do it right, you can dodge the chaos, eat well, and find those little moments that make it unforgettable.

This was two days of history, food, wine, and a bit of madness, and we loved every second of it.
