Hong Kong Happy Valley is located in the south-central area of ​​Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island, also known as Happy Valley. Its history can be traced back to Wong Nai Chung Valley, named after the yellow silt in the local river. In the 1840s, this place was once a military camp for the British army. However, because soldiers died of illness and were buried nearby, this place gradually became a cemetery. Later, the British named this place "Happy Valley", hoping that those who rest in peace can find happiness and comfort here.

In 1846, the British established Happy Valley Racecourse in Happy Valley, which became one of the local landmarks. In 1904, Hong Kong's tram lines were extended to Happy Valley and became the main means of transportation for local residents. In the early 20th century, the area also housed the Yuyuan Playground, but it was later converted into a sanatorium and hospital.

香港跑馬地位於香港島灣仔區的中南部地區，又被稱作快活谷。它的歷史可以追溯至黃泥涌谷，因當地河流帶有黃色的泥沙而得名。在19世紀40年代，這裡曾經是英軍的軍營，不過因軍人患病死亡而被葬在附近，使得這個地方逐漸成為墳場。後來，英人將這個地方命名為「Happy Valley」，希望安息的人能夠在這裡得到快樂與安慰。
