The African Sidewinder Snake! ft. Perenguey's Adder

The African Sidewinder Snake aka the Perenguey's Adder ( Bitis peringueyi ) is a venomous viper adapted to living in the Namib Desert in Namibia and Southern Angola. The sand is a difficult surface to gain traction on so the sidewinder snake / Perenguey's adder has learned to propel its body with the sidewinding motion to push itself up a dune gaining more surface area and forward momentum. Like most of the species living in this desert, it has also learned to drink water from the mist / dew in the morning as well as getting water from its prey, including the Shovel Snouted Lizard ( Meroles sp. ), which actually has a second bladder. Like its prey, the Sidewinder is able to dig itself under the surface of the sand to stay out of the direct sun, as well as keeping camouflaged with just its eyes which are located on the top of its head emerged, perfect as an ambush predator. This sidewinder snake has a cytotoxic venom which is sufficient to demobilise & digest its prey. Its venom isn't considered deadly to humans.
