Full Series Playlist: • Restoring a Historic Townhouse
Welcome to our oldest, most high profile project to date! We just broke ground on this historic Philadelphia townhouse, built in the year 1800. Like, actually 1800. This house is ancient! It's also elegant, handsome, proportional, and well built.
At the risk of sounding cliche, this house has good bones.
We're going to use all of our experience with restoring older rowhomes to bring this one back to life. To us, that means sustainability through durability. It means using materials and methods that will add to the longevity of this structure (think lime mortars instead of modern cements). It means insulation strategies that won't trap moisture and release dangerous chemicals. It means updated mechanical systems that save money and energy while providing reliable comfort.
We're trying something new with this series. It's going to be vlog-style' videos showing our weekly progress and setbacks. While there's an order of operations we follow, very rarely is construction linear, especially when restoring these historical townhouses. During any given week we're doing 5-10 different tasks. As a self-performing general contractor, a lot of the details fall on us to execute perfectly.
