At the Solo & Ensemble concert held on September 26th, the Orion Chamber Music Society presented a special tribute to their founder and director, G. Leonard Holliday! The premiere of "I Shall Know Him" arranged by Dr. Seth Custer was performed by the OCMS orchestra! Please enjoy watching the video of this performance and reading the background information on the piece below.
Mr. Holliday founded the OCMS in 2005 with the vision of bringing glory to God through performing classical and sacred music that reflects His beauty and order. Through the ministry of OCMS, many young people and adults have had the opportunity to further develop their musical gifts and share them with others.
Now, as Mr. Holliday is stepping down from the position of director, the OCMS Board of Directors commissioned Dr. Seth Custer of Bob Jones University to compose a full-orchestra arrangement of one of Mr. Holliday's favorite hymns, "I Shall Know Him". (You can find out more about Dr. Seth Custer at his website here: http://custermusic.com/ )
The resulting piece, conceived as a tone poem, attempts to depict the scene described by Fanny Crosby in her well-loved text.
This arrangement was performed at the September 26th, 2014 OCMS Solo and Ensemble Concert at First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, Michigan, and conducted by Daniel Brier.
Special thanks to Evan Thompson of Eagle Stealth Team Productions for the videography and editing.

"I Shall Know Him"
Words by Fanny Crosby
Music by John R. Sweney
When my life work is ended, and I cross the swelling tide,
When the bright and glorious morning I shall see,
I shall know my Redeemer when I reach the other side,
And His smile will be the first to welcome me.
O, the soul-thrilling rapture when I view His blessed face,
And the luster of His kindly beaming eye,
How my full heart shall praise Him for the mercy, love and grace,
That prepares for me a mansion in the sky.
I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
As redeemed by His side I shall stand.
I shall know Him, I shall know Him
By the print of the nails in His hand.
Through the gates, to the city, in a robe of spotless white,
He will lead me where no tears will ever fall,
In the glad song of ages I shall mingle with delight,
But I long to see my Savior first of all.
I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
As redeemed by His side I shall stand.
I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
I shall know Him, I shall know Him
By the print of the nails in His hand.
I shall know Him.
