Homeless BBC TV star who slept in graveyard then turned life around found hanged

The family of a 'homeless' woman who 'turned her life around' after starring in a BBC documentary about living on the streets have paid tribute after she was found hanged at home.  Paige Greenaway, who was homeless for seven years, spoke frankly about battling addiction and mental health issues whilst living on the streets and slept in a tent in a graveyard in Brighton in order to keep safe.  Paige's mum, Edell, 47, said that appearing in the documentary ‘Love And Drugs On The Street’ drove her daughter to improve her situation and she was looking forward to the future.  Since it aired in 2017, Paige had got a job as an Avon lady, set her sights on joining the Navy and had recently signed up to a hair and beauty course at college.  And she was set to start a business with her mum selling soaps and candles.  But she was tragically found hanged at her flat in Brighton, on February 9, just two weeks after Edell last saw her.  Now her devoted mum has vowed to set up a soup kitchen in Paige’s name and has shared her story in a bid to help others struggling through tough times.  She told the Mirror.co.uk: “This has come as a massive shock to us all, she was in such a good place.  “Paige really pulled up her socks and came back with a fight.  “She was so excited to see what would happen next and had planned to move back home.  “But it was like she was fighting a never-ending battle with her own demons as well.  “We cannot believe she has passed away.”  On the show Paige spoke of her plight which saw her live on the streets after struggling with mental health.  Speaking frankly, she said: “I know how I ended up in this situation. It was because my mental health deteriorated, the way I clashed with my mum. I was a runaway child.”  During the show, Paige shared the bleak reality of homelessness following a night of terrible weather .  She said: “I think it's one of the worst nights I've had since 2015.The tent fell in, I got absolutely soaked.  “Everything inside is soaked. What I'm wearing is soaked. My trainers are soaked.  “It's getting to the point I'm getting so frustrated that my mental health will deteriorate.  “It's on the verge that I'm going to end breaking down.”  She also spoke about how she survived on the streets explaining: ''We're going up to the graveyard so I can go to bed, so I can make my bed in a tent with the dead people. It's a lot safer than the streets.  ''I'd rather just stay hidden. It's quiet enough for me. It's pitch black and I've got my own space...  ''There's £5 there. It's what I've got for my food for the next couple of days so I have to think forward.  ''Get some bread, get some other bits to go with it.
