Hi all! so this one's about being an 'Alien' on Earth and what that means about your 'Identity' growing up and the pressure that entails, both for your own safety but for the safety of others. Basically more exploring of 'why' Kara kept the secret as long as she did from Lena due to her trauma, familial pressure, society & xenophobia, her abandonment issues and overall experiences.

I think in S5 sadly we didn't get much of Kara's POV especially not in-depth only maybe 3-4 scenes fully involving Kara's perspective so I've been wanting to give Kara more of a voice overall tbh and show some of it here.

As Alex said it was always down to compassion & love, it was never meant in an intentionally malicious or harmful way, even though yes Lena was hurt by it (and imo took it too far). It just came from the desire to never lose anyone else she loves, something that'd been drilled into her after what happened on Krypton and as a child with the Danvers knowing her mere existence could cause that to happen and her experiences in human society being bullied for being different and also an Alien that people wanted to oppress or remove or dissect or hunt or single out both before and after she became Supergirl.

Kara struggles with loneliness and abandonment and as I've said her main very real fear is losing the ones she loves again and things changing whether that be by them leaving or them dying and sadly with Lena there was no way of avoiding it because as shown in 5x13 death was unavoidable if not for Lena then for someone else and obviously by telling her she'd lose her too just as she did for much of S5.

I just found the topic interesting and wanted to show her experiences, because if you look back there's so much pressure on her from all sides with no real escape or outcome that'd suit everyone, all for her just 'existing' and wanting connection or wanting to help them (because upon getting to know her for good or for bad Kara could see Lena was alone/damaged by the Luthors and all she did was extend her hand in friendship & kindness and be there for her because that's who she is & it's something she understands.)

She's been forced from day 1 to hide a part of herself and that in itself causes so much trauma that I think we all need to consider. To not be accepted for who you truly are, nor express yourself, and then the weight of all these lives on her shoulders if she slipped up or trusted too early or in this case too late...

Like even prior to becoming Supergirl, as a child, she had this weight too.

It's just sooo much of a burden on her having to live her whole life like that & lie & cut out a massive portion of herself for others when she truly doesn't want too so I just think it's a really sad situation to be in and have to live with like even her sister couldn't know in S4, the one person, the only person she truly can't be without and who saw her whole truth, who she grew up with.

I'm rambling but you get me anyway. I'll likely be coming back to this topic, there's so much content (more than I could fit) mainly from S4 about being Alien and so many angles you can approach it from that I'll definitely have to revisit.

I started making this around early S5 and the voiceovers I finished before the late midseason (I think) so that meant I had one or two later scenes that I WISH I could've added that I couldn't use that would've fitted perfectly to sort of come full circle to complete her POV.
