Meet Robert Goddard skipper of the Cornish hake vessel Brittania V, which is part of the @cornishfpo hake fishery fleet.
Fishermen work gill nets with a larger mesh size than the legal requirement in order to target the larger hake; allowing juveniles to swim free. This is part of a management plan that Cornish fishers set up in 2001 due to risk of depletion in the late 1990's. Since then hake stocks have recovered to nearly double their low point. In 2015, the Cornish hake fishery became the 1st UK fishery to meet the MSC's internationally recognised sustainable fishing standard.
