Stravinsky's final major work is an astonishing compendium of styles. It develops his dodecaphonic technique by being his first work that uses more than one note-row. At the same time, the self-quotes (eg from The Symphony of Psalms in Rex Tremendae and from Symphonies of Wind Instruments in the Interlude) have a valedictory quality, celebrating and commemorating a life's work.
