In this video, you’ll see our not-so-successful attempt at removing a tick from my leg. Please be aware: this is absolutely not the correct or recommended way to remove a tick. We didn’t have the right tools on hand, and although I haven’t developed any symptoms so far, I still ended up needing to take a 30-day course of antibiotics as a precaution.
We’re sharing this video to raise awareness — not to teach a method. Ticks can carry serious diseases like Lyme disease, and removing them incorrectly can increase the risk of infection. If you ever find a tick on yourself or someone else, please make sure you do it the right way.
⚠️ What We Did Wrong:
Didn’t use a proper tick removal tool or fine-tipped tweezers
Risked squeezing the tick, which can push bacteria into the body
Unsure if the whole tick was removed cleanly
No disinfectant was available right away
✔️ If You Find a Tick, Do This Instead:
Use fine-point tweezers or a tick removal tool
Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible
Pull upwards slowly and steadily (don’t twist)
Clean the bite area with antiseptic
Save the tick in a sealed bag or container in case testing is needed
Monitor the area for any signs of rash or infection
Contact your GP or health service — especially if the tick has been attached for more than 24 hours
🩺 My Outcome:
Thankfully, I haven’t developed any symptoms so far. But because the removal wasn’t done correctly and the tick may have been attached for a while, my GP recommended a 30-day course of antibiotics to be safe. It’s a reminder of how important it is to act quickly and properly when it comes to tick bites.
